In our early days, a woman came in to visit the puppies. She came back once, then again, before she found the courage to ask to speak with the owners.
As we talked, she told us she had terminal cancer. Her daughter, in her early twenties, was fighting her own serious illness and was struggling. Her greatest wish was for her daughter to have something of her own to love, something that would give her a reason to keep fighting after she was gone.
We gave her daughter a pug puppy, a little bundle of love to cherish.
Her mother passed away some time later. We learned that the little pug became a lifeline. We think of them both often, and we’re grateful we got to play a small part in their story.
